Beauty Tips by Audrey Hepburn

Below is a wonderful poem Audrey Hepburn wrote when asked to share her "beauty tips." It was read at her funeral years later.

For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed,
revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one
at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will
discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself,
and the other for helping others.

A Beautiful Story by Robert Hastings

Things I'd Wish I'd Known Sooner by Mary Hunt

  1. Integrity always matters. Integrity is simply doing what you promised you would do. It is telling the truth and doing the truth. It is doing the right thing even if no one would know that you did the wrong thing. Integrity is accepting the blame when you have made a mistake. Integrity always matters because it matters to God. Integrity keeps you the kind of person you want to live with. And that's important because you have to live with yourself your entire life.
  2. More money will not fix everything. Until you know how to handle a small amount of money well, lots of money will only create bigger problems. Remember to never keep it all (give some away) and never spend it all (save some for the future). Then you will never be broke.
  3. Save early, save often. There exists in the universe a simple principle with a big payoff. It is called compounding interest. When you place money in a savings account, you earn interest. Then that interest earns interest, or compounds, which makes your money grow much more rapidly. Start saving money now, so it has many years to compound. That is the way to build wealth.
  4. A sense of humor is a valuable asset. Laugh at yourself and you'll never run out of material. Laugh with others. Some people can't see the humor in their situations, so just make sure they are laughing first or you could hurt their feelings. Laugh often. Laughter is good for your health because it releases tension and stress. It can make your life much more enjoyable.
  5. There's a difference between authority and responsibility. Authority usually refers to your power over people. People who crave authority usually lose it. Responsibility usually refers to your pledge to people. Those willing to assume responsibility usually get it. Most people crave authority and avoid responsibility. If you've got a great sense of responsibility, don't ever lose it.
  6. A little encouragement goes a long way. Maybe its only a few words or a small act of kindness, but that small effort can really encourage another person. It might not seem like much to you, but it can be meaningful to the other person. Whenever you encourage others, you are showing that you have care and concern for them.

Take Your Time

Take Your Time

Take time to work, it is the price of success.

Take time to think, it is the source of power.

Take time to play, it is the secret of youth.

Take time to read, it is the fountain of wisdom.

Take time to look around, it is the shortcut to unselfishness.

Take time to laugh, it is the music of the soul.

Take time to dream, it is the highest way to the stars.

Take time to be friendly, it is the road to happiness.

Take time to pray, it is the way to heaven.

~~Epiphany~~From Father Frank in St. Rita's Bulletin, January 5, 1992.

The Last Time

The Last Time

Good friends are like special treasures. The enrich one’s life immeasurable, and I believe it’s important to let them know this.

One day I started thinking about how I would have reacted were I to have known that something I was doing was to be the last time I’d ever do it. How would I have played that last stickball game, taken the last roller skate ride down the street, played football and baseball and boxball, raced my friends to the corner and back, ate that orange fudgesicles, sledded down the hill, raced the bike into Upper Darby, chased the girls across the schoolyard, eaten a double order of French fries with gravy on them, gone to a Saturday matinee with my friends, and all the hundreds of other things that are gone from our lives before we even realize it.

Carry it a step further. What about all the things I do now that one day will also be for the last time? And what about all those special people in our lives who leave us before we get the opportunity to tell them exactly how we feel about them? God, I wish I had told so many of my aunts and uncles how much I truly loved them.

If we know it was to be the last time for anything or anyone, we would live our lives with much more fervor, determination and will, and with much more love and appreciation for those around us. I decided that even if I had neglected to do it in the past. I could make certain not to continue making the same mistake in my future.

Maturity

Maturity

Maturity is the ability to control anger and settle differences without violence.

Maturity is patience. It is the willingness to pass up immediate pleasure in favor of long-term gain.

Maturity is perseverance, the ability to sweat out a project or a situation in spite of heavy opposition and discouraging setbacks.

Maturity is the capacity to face unpleasantness and frustration, discomfort and defeat without complaint or collapse.

Maturity is humility. It is being big enough to say “I was wrong.” And, when you’re right, you need not say, “I told you so.”

Maturity is making a decision and following through. The immature spends their lives exploring endless possibilities and then doing nothing.

Maturity means dependability, keeping one’s word and coming through in a crisis. The immature are master of the alibi. Their lives are a maze of broken promises, former friends, unfinished business and good intentions.

And- based on the Serenity Prayer, Maturity is the art of living in peace with what we cannot change, the courage to change what we know should be changed, and the wisdom to know the difference.

What is Class

Class never runs scared. It is sure-footed and confident, and it can handle whatever comes along.

Class has a sense of humor. It knows that a good laugh is the best lubricant for oiling the machinery of human relations.

Class never makes excuses. It takes its lumps and learns from past mistakes.

Class knows that good manners are nothing more than a series of small sacrifices and minor inconveniences.

Class bespeaks an aristocracy unrelated to ancestors or money. Sme extremely wealthy people have no class at all, while others who are struggling to make ends meet are loaded with it.

Class is real. You can't fake it.

Class is comfortable in its own skin. It never puts on airs.

Class never tries to build itself up by tearing others down. Class is already up and need not attempt to look better by making others look worse.

Class can "walk with kings and keep its virtue and talk with crowds and keep the common touch. Everyone is comfortable with the person who has class because he is comfortable with himself.

If you have class, you've got it made. If yuou don't have class, no matter what else you have, it won't make up for it.

~~~Ann Landers
100 Little Things I've Learned in Life So Far from Dear Abby
1) Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.
2) Marry a man you love to talk to. As you get older, conversation will be one of the principal elements of your relationship.
3) Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.
4) When you say, "I love you," mean it.
5) When you say, "I'm sorry," look the person in the eye.
6) Be engaged at least six months before you get married.
7) Believe in love at first sight.
8) Never laugh at anyone's dream. People who don't have dreams don't have much.
9) Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely
10) In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.
11) Don't judge people by their relatives.
12) Talk slowly but think quickly.
13) When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, "Why do you want to know?"
14) Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
15) Say "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.
16) When you lose, don't lose the lesson
17) Remember the three most important R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; and Responsibility for all your actions.
18) Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
19) When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
20) Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.
21) Spend some time alone. Constant socializing can be draining.
22) A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart.
23) Be accepting of everyone, never discriminate. You should accept people for who they are not who you want them to be!
24) All people are not created equally. There will always be people who are prettier than you, and there will always be those that you are prettier than. There will always be those that have more than you, and there will always be those you will have more than. But that does not mean that those with "less" should be treated as lesser, and that those with more should be treated any better.
25) Always be yourself, never change for anyone. If a person is not willing to accept you for who you are then it is their loss.
26) What is life worth living if you don't take risks ever now and then. However, be cautious about it - because with every action comes a consequence. Always remember, life is a precious thing, the unfortunate part is we are only gifted with one. Live every moment as if it is your last, you never know when it maybe.
27) Everything happens for a reason. You may not see it right away, but in time you will come to realize that it was for the best. Just like Garth Brooks says “Some of God’s greatest gifts, are unanswered prayers.”
28) Why give up on something you want, you mustn't want it that badly if you are so quick to retreat.
29) With every mistake in life comes an equally important lesson. Study history, both yours and the world's. Learn from the mistakes of the past so that you don't make them.
30) Follow your heart, but be smart about it, your heart likes to play tricks.
31) Nobody's perfect, that includes you and the person you like. Admit when you're wrong, it will earn you forgiveness and respect. If you think someone is "out of your league" it is because you make them that way, unless they make themself that way in which case you deserve better than that.
32) Be picky about your battles because the "ghosts of war" always come back to haunt you.
33) When someone talks listen, don't just be waiting for your turn to talk.
34) People lie for many reasons, don't belieive everything you hear. Investigate further before you pass judgment on the situation.
35) Never act on impulse, take time to weigh your options.
36) When given a secret, keep it a secret. Tell one person and you tell them all. Someone told you because they trust you, don't ruin that trust. Once trust is broken, it is very hard to mend.
37) Romance and love are sacred, keep them that way.
38) Know when to be serious, but remember to have fun too. You'll experience many situations in life where you must know how to distribute two opposites to make them balance out.
39) A true friend is there when you need them, so as a true friend you should be there when they are in need.
40) Don't be afraid to make your own decisions, just because it isn’t the popular decision doesn't mean it is not the right one.
41) Don't ruin good things with bad decisions.
42) Beware of greed, it can destroy anything, and it will if you let it.
43) Make the best out of every situation, complaining only makes it worse.
44) Never interrupt when you are being flattered.
45) Always finish what you start. If you leave something unfinished, you have just wasted time on the part of it that you did complete.
46) Time is more valuable than money, especially when you use it correctly. Another thing, money is infinite while time is limited.
47) Never assume, take some time to differentiate fact from opinion.
48) Be patient, sometimes things take a lot time and effort.
49) Trust is something you must have for the people who are close to you in life. Without trust you'll lose everyone because of your suspicions.
50) It can always get worse. Don't believe me? Visit a children’s trama unit or go stay in a third world nation for a while.
51) Some things are better left undisturbed, so don't mess with them.
52) Always have a backup plan, in case something goes wrong.
53) Never forget where you came from, it is your family, friends and teachers that helped get you where you are now.
54) Always take some time out of your busy schedule to spend with those you love. You never know when it maybe to late.
55) Never leave a conversation end in anger, you may not get another chance to say sorry.
56) Make peace with your enemies, it'll save a lot of things. If peace cannot be achieved, defeat them in the least costly way.
57) When you can't figure something out try looking from a different view. If something really puzzles you, try thinking outside the box. Often times you are to close to the situation to see the answer.
58) Ask questions. The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked. If you need help, don't wait to ask for it.
59) True wealth and beauty come from the inside. The richest person is the person who cares the most - not the person with lots of money.
60) Lend a helping hand whenever possible, you'll need help someday too.
61) Be a friend to everyone you meet, it could save someone’s life.
62) Know when enough is enough, be persistent not annoying.
63) Beware of the easy route in life. The hard route is more often than not the safer route, while the easy route brings nothing but trouble.
64) Always think nothing is impossible just highly improbable.
65) Forgive but never forget. Everyone makes mistakes so be willing to forgive them, but don't get used. If you forget then the same things will happen time and time again. Think, "Get me once shame on you, get me twice shame on me."
66) Things happen based on the past not based on luck, so always make the wise decision. There is no such thing as luck, you create your own "luck."
67) Take and enjoy what is given to you, never complain about something you recieve for nothing. The most vaulable things in life are free.
68) Always look for every possibility in a situation. Double meanings and multiple solutions have their perks and purgatories.
69) Don’t swear or use profanity. It just shows how limited your vocabulary is and makes you look like a tramp.
70) Always wear a good moisturizer after 30.
71) Have faith. Go to church. Believe in God but lock your car.
72) Call your mom.
73) Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
74) Read more books, and watch less tv.
75) In disagreements with loved ones, deal with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.
76) Don't let your mouth get ahead of your head.
77) Open your mind to change, but don't let new ideas dilute your principles.
78) Live an honorable life. When you get older, you'll be glad you did.
79) When you don't know what to do, pray. You'll be surprised at how much it will help you decide.
80) A loving atmosphere in your home is important. It will also help keep your children from needing therapy.
81) Judge succcess by what you had to give up to get it.
82) Rember that not getting what you want may be the best thing that never happened to you.
83) Generally there are two choices for bridges, crossing them or burning them.
84) You will make twice as many friends being interested in them than you will make trying to get them interested in you.
85) God provided the face, you provide the expression.
86) The best way to destroy an enemy is to make a friend.
87) We judge ourselves by what we are capable of doing, but other jude us by what we have already done.
Bill Gates's Rules
Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.
Rule 1: Life is not fair -- get used to it!
Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity.? Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.
Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually Have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
George Carlin's Wisdom.
George Carlin's Views on Aging :
Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.
"How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key. You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.
"How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . . you become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . . . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!
But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?
You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.
But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would! So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60. You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday! You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92."
Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!"
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!
HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay "them "
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets,keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9 Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity. AND ALWAYS REMEMBER: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
